![]() ![]() The developers obviously like flexing their challenge muscles and showing off how crazy they can make a boss while still keeping it balanced (yes NK Grimm is balanced. Not to disparage the players who like that level of mastery, or the developers for making it. Path of Pain and NK Grimm however feel like an extension of things like 10x Zote the content seems made to appeal solely to the most hardcore mastery-geared corner of the fanbase, who care primarily about pushing the system to its absolute limits and beating it there. Divine functions as a 'casual crutch' yes, and TM Grimm is somewhat too (he can be damage rushed, and the notch is incredibly helpful). Grim Troupe seems to focus heavily on "challenge" content. The meat of the update was the later forms though, so Hidden Dreams still felt like a 'hardcore' update. Hidden Dreams content was variable in that a 'casual' player could simply beat the first round for dreams and be done with it, while a 'hardcore' player would push through all of them for the lore reward. The main game seemed to be designed to have multi-demographic appeal a casual player could grind or explore to mitigate the mounting challenge, while a more experienced player could burst through many areas of the game at their own pace. ![]() ![]() This is just rant about PoP, 3 hours in and I can't pass the first section, even though I can do a perfect radiance, NKG, having turn Zote statue golden and done everything this game can offer at this point.Īs someone who enjoyed the White Palace as one of the most fun and relaxing parts of the game (you laugh, but with charms set up to give infinite tries it becomes a calm process of perfecting each jump, rather than having to 'perfect' the whole area) I found the Path of Pain an annoying indication of development trends in HK. I know the whole area is optional, but that doesn't excuse how out of place it is. This whole platforming section is just reset, reset and reset. It's oppressive when you fail, unlike the rest of the games where at least you know you are getting somewhere. It doesn't have important purposes, it doesn't give you the joy that you have when you finally beat a boss like NKG, it just get's boring, repetitive and making you wanting to smash your screen, like most platforms. The section of PoP is just trial, error and annoyance. Why in a metroidvania, the hardest challenger in the game is a pure platforming section? They are all very difficult compared to the rest of the game, but here is a problem. ![]() These are all extras supposedly for completionists. Hollow knight belongs in the metroidvania genre, and both DLC has added something for late game completionists, whether the 10 fights with Zote, 5 fights with white defender, NKG or PoP. r/demonssouls /r/darksouls /r/darksouls2 /r/darksouls3 /r/bloodborne /r/saltandsanctuary /r/castlevania /r/metroidĪs someone who is in the 0.5% of the player base (100% steelsoul), find the whole area not fun, and just out of place.
